About American Silver Eagle Coins
The coin comes in three different versions: bullion, proof, and uncirculated. Of these, only the bullion version is eligible for IRA accounts or 401(k) rollovers. The coin has been minted at three different facilities: Philadelphia Mint, West Point Mint, and San Francisco Mint. The bullion version was initially minted at the San Francisco Mint from 1986 to 1998, after which production moved to the Philadelphia and West Point Mints.
The proof version has been minted at all three mints since 1986, with each coin bearing the mark of the mint where it was produced. Coins from the Philadelphia Mint feature a “P” mark, those from the West Point Mint have a “W” mark, and coins from the San Francisco Mint bear an “S” mark.
The uncirculated version was first produced in 2006 exclusively by the West Point Mint, but it has not been produced annually like the other two versions. Additionally, special issues of these coins have been released to commemorate significant moments in the country’s history.
Design & Features
The Highland Mint Indian Silver Round features a uniquely attractive design on both sides. The obverse side displays a side portrait of an Indian head, with stars tracing the edge of the round. On the reverse side, there is an engraving of an eagle holding arrows in its left talon and an olive branch in its right, symbolizing war and peace, respectively. Additionally, the reverse side includes the inscription “SILVER BULLION ROUND” above the eagle and “.999 FINE SILVER” to the left of the eagle.
Other inscriptions on the coin include “HM” and “ONE TROY OUNCE.” The “HM” mark represents Highland Mint, and all precious metals from this mint bear this mark
